1.Introduction

Hunan University was approved to confer professional master's degree in industrial engineering for in-service postgraduates in 2003. It started cultivating full-time postgraduates with professional degree in 2010. A large number of talents in industrial engineering have thus been nurtured.

Industrial Engineering(IE) is an integrated engineering discipline with engineering and management technologies combined. It aims to lower costs, improve quality and productivity, and achieve sustainable development. Systematic, professional, and scientific methods are adopted. Industrial engineering uses various engineering and management technologies to verify, forecast or evaluate, and optimize the operation and effects of the integrated system which focuses on personnel, material, equipment, energy, and information. Now, there are 4 professors and 12 postgraduate supervisors.

2.Program Objectives

It aims to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary talents with the following abilities:

·Comprehend the basic theory and knowledge of engineering and management technologies, and systematically mastering the basic theory and methods, and having expertise of industrial engineering;

·Understand the theories of modern engineering economy and modern engineering management; and,

·Master advanced technologies and methods for handling engineering technical issues, and knowing how to utilize these theories and methods to analyze and solve practical production problems.
