1.Introduction
Hunan University (HNU) was approved to confer professional master's degree in vehicle engineering for in-service postgraduatesin 2004.It started cultivating full-time postgraduates with professional degree in 2010. A large number of talents in vehicle engineering have thus been nurtured.
HUN vehicle engineering discipline has the following features:
·It is a key discipline of the "Project 211"and the "Project 985", a key national-level discipline, and one of the earliest vehicle engineering doctoral stationsin China;
·It has unique features in the field of vehicle design and manufacturing;
·It enjoys relatively high academic reputation at home and abroad in such fields as automotive crash safety technology,and manufacturingand advanced design technology for vehicle body;
·Its‘sheet metal stamping process and mold design theory, computing method and key technologies, and the irapplication in vehicle body manufacturing’was awarded the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and‘automotive crash safetydesign and improvement theory, methods, and key technologies’the second prize;
·It has solved numerous technical problems for many national automobile enterprises in terms of vehicle structure,chassisparts and components, and vehicle performance design, among others;
·It has established long-term cooperation with various national automobile enterprises and relevant parts and components enterprises. It is highly-influential in this field; and,
·Its‘State Key Laboratory of Advanced Design and Manufacturing for Vehicle Body’is one of the three national key laboratories in the field of vehicle engineering, and also a main center for national research on the cutting-edge technology of the design and manufacturing for vehicle body and high-level professionals cultivation.
2.Program Objectives
Students are trained to have:
·Solidbasic theory and systematic expertise of vehicle engineering, and knowledge about the current situations and development trends of the vehicle engineering-related fields, especially technical research and development;
·Comprehensive and solid basic knowledge and expertise of engineering design, mechanics modeling, and computer application;
·Abilityto handle practical engineering technical issues with professional knowledge, and organizeand lead teams to jointly solve technical problems; and,
·Good technical management and coordination abilities, and foreign language proficiency.
