1. Program Objectives
The discipline of power engineering and engineering thermophysics aims to cultivate talents who:
·Have basic theoretical knowledge and systematic expertise in power engineering and engineering thermophysics and the related subjects;
·Know current status and trends of the discipline at home and abroad;
·Be able to independently analyze and solve technical problems concerning the discipline;
·Have a good grasp of mathematics, physics, mechanics, and computer application;
·Be rigorous, pragmatic, innovative, and with good academic ethnics;and,
·Have a good command of a foreign language.
2. Discipline Introduction and Research Orientations
As a first-level discipline, the Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics includes 6 second-level disciplines authorized to confer academic master’s degrees:namely,power machinery and engineering, engineering thermophysics, thermal engineering, refrigeration and cryogenic engineering, fluid machinery, and chemical machinery; and 1 second-level discipline authorized to confer professional master’s degree in power engineering.
At present, there are 6 professors, 7 doctoral supervisors, 8 associate professors, 5 lecturers, 16 teachers holding a doctoraldegree, and 16 teachers with overseas educational background. Among them, there are 3 distinguished professors included in China’s Thousand Talent Program, the Program for the Introductionof High-level Overseas Cultural and Educational Experts sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and Hunan’s Hundred Talent Program respectively,and1 Hunan Outstanding Teacher. The discipline has research centers including the Engineering Research Center of Automotive Electrics and Control Technology of the Ministry of Education, Hunan Research and Testing Center of Vehicle EmissionsPollution Technology, and HNU Engineering Center of Advanced Automobile Powertrain.
Over the past five years, the discipline has won 5 national, ministerial, and provincial awards for scientific research and teaching achievements. It has published more than 200 academic papers and over half of them have been indexed by SCI and EI. It has undertaken more than 50 national, ministerial, and provincial scientific research projects and 40 authorized enterprise projects. It has published 11 monographs or textbooks (including two textbooks for China’s 11th Five-Year Plan).
