1.Program Objectives

Students are trained to acquire basic theories and systematicandin-depth expertise of Mechanics. The program focuses on the cutting-edge development of Mechanics, and interdisciplinary applications, which will enable students to conduct theoretical, calculation, and experimental study in Mechanics; carry out creative scientific research; and, independently work out systematic and innovative research on scientific and engineering technical problems with respect to the research orientations.

2.DisciplineIntroduction and Research Orientations

Mechanics, as a first-order and key discipline of Hunan Province, covers four second-order disciplines: Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, General Mechanics, and Fundamentals of Mechanics. Solid Mechanics disciplinehas been accredited as a key discipline by the former Ministry of Machine Industry of the P.R.C. At present, there are 13 professors (including 2 supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 2 visiting and distinguished professors with the Changjiang Scholars Program), and over 10 associate professors. A “Large-scale Engineering Scientific Computing” Graduate Innovation Base of Hunan Province, and a post-doctoral research program for Mechanics, have been established. In recent five years, it has undertaken more than 40 national and 60 ministerial and provincial-level scientific research projects, and published over 400 scientific papers, among which over 300 included in SCI, EI and ISTP.
