Discipline Code:0802 Discipline Level:First Order
1.Program Objectives
Students are trained to have solid basic theory and in-depth expertise of mechanical engineering. The program focuses on frontier researches and interdisciplinary applications, which will enable students to master basic knowledge of relevant disciplines and be familiar with commonly used theoretical analysis, advanced designs, processing principles, experimental methods, and testing techniques in mechanical engineering.
Based on in-depth understanding and analysis, students will be able to independently carry out systematic and innovative researches on engineering science and technical issues.
2.Discipline Introduction and Research Orientations
Mechanical engineering as a first-orderdiscipline covers four second-orderdisciplines: mechanical manufacturing and automation;mechatronics engineering; mechanical design and theory; and, vehicle engineering. There are abundant prominent researchers and professionals, including: two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; one academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, and also distinguished professor of Hunan University; two candidates for the "Thousand Talent Program"; one candidate for the "Thousand Foreign Experts Program";four candidates for the "Thousand Young Talent Program";two distinguished and chair professors of Changjiang Scholars Program; one National 863 Program expert;four national outstanding youth fund winners;two Lotus Scholars; and, 14 professors supported by the Ministry of Education’s Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University. Mechanical engineering is a national key discipline. There are several national, ministerial and provincial scientific research institutions, including National Engineering Research Center for High Efficiency Grinding, State Key Laboratory of Advanced Design and Manufacturing of Vehicle Body, Mechanical Engineering Experimental Teaching Center, and Mechanical Engineering Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center. In recent years, it has won five national awards including the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award; and, more than 40 ministerial and provincial awards. It published more than 1,500 papers, and, obtained more than 120 invention patents.
